My Future As A Teacher - 867 Words

In this paper I will be discussing how I will plan my future as a teacher, taking into consideration what and how I need to get there. It is important that I think about the steps I need to follow and the things that may be useful in the process of becoming a successful professional. Furthermore I will include my work experience and what I have learnt from shadowing my professional in an early years setting. Qualifications. The department for Education states that getting basic qualifications is the first step towards becoming a teacher. I must have the equivalent of at least a grade C in English, Mathematics and Science. I also needed 280 UCAS points to gain a place on the Early Childhood course at University. Once I have qualified with a degree of a 2:1 or more I need to apply for the QTS (qualified teacher status) course that qualifies me to teach. I will have to pass a Skills Tests in numeracy and literacy. To prepare myself for this exam I must revise using mock tests online and study 2-3 hours a day. (Bond, 2013) It is also beneficial to have a varied range of classroom based work experience. It is ideal to show you have practical experience as well as academic theory. I have also been volunteering in a Primary School in between university term time. From shadowing my professional I have gained an understanding of some of the key ingredients in becoming an effective practitioner. Teamwork.
